Rectangle body shape
There are a lot of different body shapes when it comes to women. The hourglass, apple, pear , the inverted triangle body shape and the rectangle shape are the most known different body types. Women with the latter body shape have the following characteristics:
- Bust and hips approx the same width
- Straight body frame
- Medium to small bust
- Thin arms and legs
- Little to no waist definition
Of course there are also rectangle body shape celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow and Doutzen Kroes.
Some say rectangles have a masculine or boyish figure because there is a lack of feminine curves like with the hourglass figure. But by just adding a few stylish touches here and there you have nothing to fear. Dress styles like wrap dresses are perfect for you to wear as you create a waist line and therefore curves. Your best accessoire is a belt for accentuating the waist, this also goes for tops. If you are for example a more plus size rectangle body shape then you can wear these dresses the best: maxi dresses (to make you look longer), wrap dresses (to define the waistline) and other belted dresses to distract the attention to the waist and not for example your tummy. If you have a flat stomach then you can also rock fitted dresses (see picture below) to define your torso.
Do's: belted shift dress, wrap dress, A-line, fishtail dress.
When you have a rectangle shaped body you can wear different kind of tops and sweaters. Actually you can rock any style top whether it's dressy or casual. If you have a short torso you can best wear tops that extend to the hips or lower, this is to create more length en make your torso look leaner and longer. From V-necks to high necks like turtlenecks and pussy bow blouses. What about this fabulous twin set jogging suit (see picture below) with a V-neck fitted V-neck sweater for example? Also peplum style tops are perfect when you want to create the illusion of curvy hips.
Do's: V-necks, ruffle tops, pussy bow blouses, prints, racer neck and high necklines.
Jackets and Blazers
Nipped at the waistline is key when it comes to jackets and blazers. So tailored and fitted styles (see picture) are perfect for a rectangle figure. Also peplum style jackets are nice for you when you want to create the illusion of a waist. For example: trench coats and duster coats are styles you can easily rock!
Do's: trench coats, belted styles, peplum style jackets.
The rectangle body type can easily wear wrap skirts and pleated skirts to define the silhouette. Go for flirty styles that add volume at the hip if you want to create the illusion of curves. Maxi skirts are also a great style to wear if you have long legs. Also skirts with an adjustable waistband or a belt are key in creating a waist line.
Do's: wrap skirt, pleated skirt, peplum style, maxi skirts, circle and flared styles.
Jeans and pants
You can rock all sort of jeans styles. Women with a rectangle shaped body especially have to look for styles with details for the hip area to add some dimension. Skinny jeans are a rectangles best friend as they show off those lean legs and are great to match with different top styles. Invest in belts as they are perfect to define your waistline.
Do's: skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, flared pants and boyfriend jeans.
